Leila Fanner is a painter, illustrator and surface pattern designer. Her creativity is interwoven with her dreams and meditative visions. Using the natural world as her subject, she explores her relationship with the material realm from both a metaphysical and a spiritual viewpoint.
Leila held her first exhibition at the age of 23. Upcoming exhibitions include ‘Redemptive Beauty’ at Eclectica Contemporary in Cape Town and at The Turbine Art Fair in Johannesburg. Her work has also featured in British Vogue’s Gallery, Real Simple and Elle Decoration South Africa, and is in private collections in South Africa, Germany, France, Kenya, England, Ireland and the USA.
Leila studied at the Johannesburg National School of the Arts. After forays into the worlds of PR and magazine promotions, and a six-year stint as an art and production director for a top retail chain, she returned to art fulltime.
Following the resounding success of the inaugural event in 2016, Solo Studios returns to the Riebeek Valley over the weekend of 11-13 August 2017:
Hosted in and around the towns of Riebeek Kasteel and Riebeek West, Solo Studios is a collaboration between artists, art curators and galleries based in the area, and has been created to provide an opportunity for art collectors to visit artists in their studios to view and purchase their art. Mostly private and reclusive, the artists invite the fraternity into their personal realm for a rare intimate encounter.
A new addition to this year’s offering is the inclusion of resident authors, poets and book illustrators, all represented on one platform in a group exhibition, “The Writers’ Studio”. A highlight of this programme is the opportunity to enjoy breakfast with political commentator Max du Preez and investigative journalist Jacques Pauw.
